Theresa Genevieve Babinski of Water Mill died on November 28, 2016. She was 81.
Mrs. Babinski was born in Southampton to Julia Zebrowski Hoinski and Michael Hoinski. She married Anthony Babinski Jr. of Water Mill and joined him on his family farm on Mecox Road. Together they founded Babinski farm stand in the early 1970s, quickly becoming successful for its homegrown vegetables, vibrant flowers and fresh baked goods. Survivors said that the business is one of the first family-owned and operated gourmet farm stands in the Hamptons.
Mrs. Babinski’s talents were many. She was a member of the Begonia Society and earned several trophies for her flowers. She loved tending to her many gardens, especially her rose bushes. She had a joy for antique collecting and was once featured in The Southampton Press with her vintage Santa Claus collection. Mrs. Babinski was also known for her love of baking and cooking, most notably her chocolate chip banana bread. Her raspberry jam was once featured on Regis and Kathie Lee’s morning show.
Mrs. Babinski is survived by her husband of 60 years; a son, Michael Babinski; and two daughters, Sheila Spooner and Charlene Babinski; grandchildren, Jesse Spooner, Carla Lillie and Maxwell Spooner; and Michelle Babinksi, Victoria Muller, and Stephen Babinksi; as well as eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on December 5 at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral Mass was held on December 6 at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Bridgehampton. Interment followed at Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Southampton.
