They Stand Out

Yahoo! At the debates for Southampton Town Board last Thursday night, October 17, put on by the League Of Women Voters of the Hamptons, two candidates highlighted that their future work would include the considerations of the science of drawdown, the most expedient way to create positive climate change. This would continue to put Southampton on the fastest track to meet carbon-neutral goals.

Because we are an agricultural and coastal community, the scope of Project Drawdown is particularly relevant, because of all the carbon-sequestering solutions that are land- and ocean-based. Sequestering, for those like me who forgot my high school science, is when land- or sea-based plants pull carbon out of the atmosphere and put it into the ground, thereby reducing greenhouse gases.

Candidates Craig Catalanotto and John Bouvier (who already is contributing mightily to drawdown) stand out from the pack as those that will lead us in creating a healthy environment for our future, with all of its cascading economic benefits. And, Craig and John, thanks for responding to my public request.
