Thomas “Tom” Adlard Mitchell of Westhampton Beach died after a long illness on September 29, surrounded by family. He was 88.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Flatbush on December 19, 1926. He was the son of Edna Adlard and Frank Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was a successful businessman and sole owner of Raynor & Mitchell Marine on Montauk Highway until he retired in 1986. He was stationed in the Philippines, where he was trained as a bombardier navigator.
Mr. Mitchell enjoyed a long retirement, spending time boating and fishing with family and friends. He also had a passion for aircraft and flying and was a licensed pilot.
He is survived by a daughter, Tracey Auchincloss and husband Tom of Eagle Bridge; two sons, Thomas Mitchell of Westhampton Beach and Scott Mitchell and wife Ann of Long Beach; and a grandson, Shea Watson of Virginia. He was predeceased by his wife, Joan, in 2014.
The family received friends at the Follett and Werner Funeral Home on October 2.
