Thomas H. Pegues of Westhampton Beach died on Saturday, July 12, at Stony Brook University Hospital. He was 85.
Mr. Pegues was born in New York City on October 4, 1922, to David and Harriet Pegues. His family moved to Westhampton Beach when he was a child, and he graduated from Westhampton Beach High School, where he received the All Suffolk County Athletic Award.
After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II.
Mr. Pegues was an active member of the Quogue VFW and the Westhampton American Legion, and was a trustee of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice; two daughters, Lois Pegues Boyd, and Cheryl Pegues Pride and her husband Autry; a sister-in-law, Helene Robbins; a brother-in-law, Hilbert Morris; a granddaughter, Shanise Pegues; and two great-grandsons, Jayden and Jordan Minter.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Hazel Morris.
A wake was held at the Follett & Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach on July 16. The Reverend John Greene of the St. Paul AME Zion Church officiated at funeral services on July 17 at the funeral home. Interment followed at the Westhampton Cemetery.
