Thomas Joseph Meigel, a longtime resident of Hampton Bays, died in the early morning hours of January 17 at Southampton Hospital after suddenly becoming ill in the early evening of January 16. He was 53.
Born September 26, 1960, he was a master carpenter and craftsman involved in the renovation and sale of residential properties throughout the East End for more than 30 years. He was proud of his home in Hampton Bays, which he transformed from a ramshackle, duck hunting lodge into the perfect waterfront home for sailing and fishing.
He was a competitive skier and avid fisherman. He loved to remind friends that as a young man of 20, he skied for more than 100 consecutive days. Survivors said that all who knew him speak of his unfailing good humor and honesty.
He is survived by his former wife, Maria Meigel of East Quogue; two young sons, Thomas Meigel III and Jack Meigel; a brother, Terry Meigel; a sister, Debbie Meigel; and his parents, Thomas and Lori Meigel of East Quogue. He is also survived by his companion for many years, Jenny Dwyer.
