Thomas Myrick Jr. of Southampton. died on April 28, at his home. He was 71.
Born on November 1, 1937, in Williamston, North Carolina, to Thomas Myrick Sr. and Josephine Myrick, he attended school in the Martin County School District in Williamston.
Mr. Myrick joined Jones Chapel Baptist Church in Williamston at an early age and after moving to Southampton in the 1950s, he first joined the First Baptist Church of Southampton, then Padgett’s Temple Church of God In Christ in Southampton, and later, King’s Chapel Church of God In Christ in Southampton where he served as an usher until his death.
A hardworking and dedicated employee of landscaper Peter Salm for 22 years, he then followed his dream and established his own landscaping business. According to survivors, he loved to work and was always looking for a project to keep him busy. Mr. Myrick was a good husband, provider and father to all of his children, survivors said this week.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mary Ann (née Richardson) Myrick; four daughters, Whitney Myrick and Ashley Myrick, both of Southampton; and Sharon Myrick Proctor and Louise “Coke” Myrick, both of North Carolina; two sons, Thomas Myrick III of Staten Island and James Myrick of North Carolina; six sisters, Joanne Clark and her husband Roosevelt of California; and Ethel Thomas, Naomi Myrick, Susie Myrick, Margaret Howell and Phenoise Howell all of North Carolina; four brothers, Louis Earl Myrick and his wife Bridgett and Charles Myrick of Bridgehampton, James Herbert Myrick and his wife Dottie of Massachusetts and Walter Myrick, both of North Carolina; and two grandchildren, Sinead and Shayla Proctor. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a son, Marcus Myrick; three sisters, Bertha Myrick, Dorothy Bowen, and Queen Bagowitz; and two brothers, Larry Myrick and Hayward Myrick.
The family received visitors May 1 at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral service was held on May 2 at Kings Chapel Church of God in Christ in Southampton, with the Reverend Dr. Frank A. White, officiating. Interment was in Williamston, North Carolina.
