Thomas “Tom” Kerr Newbert, died on Saturday, March 21, after a two-year battle with ALS. He was 80.
Mr. Newbert was born in Jamaica, Queens, on July 21,1939 to Paul and Agnes Newbert. He was one of seven children.
He married Joanne Tracey on April 17, 1971. They had two children, Thomas and Michael. Mr. Newbert was a loving grandfather to three grandchildren.
The couple lived in College Point until they moved to Quogue. They also shared two vacation homes, in Montauk and Naples, Florida.
Mr. Newbert was a United States Army Veteran, a New York Police Department officer, a New York City firefighter, a volunteer firefighter in Quogue and a Bay Constable in Montauk.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed golfing, bowhunting, skiing, and fishing. Mr. Newbert enjoyed spending time talking with friends and family. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
A private funeral will be held at Calverton National Cemetery. A celebration of life memorial service will be planned for a future date.
