Thomas Xavier Giaccone Of Wainscott Dies January 8

Thomas Xavier Giaccone, an artist and longtime resident of Wainscott, died at home on January 8, 2019, after a prolonged illness. He was 90.

Mr. Giaccone is survived by Mary, his wife of 30 years. After finishing the restoration of his original schoolhouse home in Laurel Hollow, they built their dream home together in Wainscott, where he spent his days painting in his home studio.

Mr. Giaccone was born in Brooklyn and attended Polytechnic Preparatory Country Day School, Colgate University (1949) and Columbia University Teachers College, graduating with a master’s degree in fine arts. He is a veteran of the Korean War. After the war he was the owner of his own design firm Giaccone Graphics in New York City and then subsequently took a full time teaching position at the Fashion Institute of Technology, retiring as the chairman of the Advertising Department.

Mr. Giaccone was known for hosting wonderful gatherings of family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, stepchildren, grandchildren, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton on Saturday, January 19, at 10 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, ADRCinc.org, or East End Hospice, eeh.org.
