June 7 marked my 25th anniversary of being a year-round taxpaying homeowner here in Southampton Village, and I love this special place of rare beauty. This village makes me happy.
Please be reminded that Southampton Village is a world-class community and the world is always watching.
To forward the pressing interest of getting modern, I believe that our village trustees must get their acts together and install at least one dozen recharge stations for electric cars. Install these electric recharge stations on West Main Street so that those businesses can get a bit more visibility and advantage. Yes, I know we have a few near Village Hall. Great, that is a start. These stations could be a source of village income. What a concept.
Top of the list of musts is the Southampton Village sanitary sewer system. This must be done. And do not again tell me there’s no room. In past years, some trustees allowed some connected advantage-taking person to get permits to build some mega-mansions. What was done is done, but we do not need any more mega-mansions — but we do need a sewer system now.
Finally, how about a senior living facility containing both independent and assisted living, a nice community like the one in Greenport. There is a suitable large parcel in the western part of the village. It runs from County Road 39 south along the east side of Tuckahoe Road. This is a fine place for senior housing.
It will sell out before the first shovel is put into the ground. Needed and very popular. I will be the first in line. I have not moved because I love my village.
Okay, I gave you three good ideas.
In closing, I hotly object to the collective bad conduct on display at village meetings. I am repulsed by these incompetent bad behaviors. There was fault enough to go around. The naked jealousy on some of those (all puffed up with self-importance) officials’ faces is foolish at the least and revolting at the worst. Stop acting like the “but we’ve always done it this way” crowd. Time to get modern and do your jobs.
Consider yourselves citizen scolded. You won, congrats, now to the work, all of you.
