Tied to Trump

“The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

Shakespeare could well have been describing Nick LaLota’s most recent (September 10, 2024) posting on X (née Twitter). At the very top of the page, in large, brightly colored letters, are the words: “I oppose a national abortion ban and Project 2025.” Donald Trump now makes similar claims.

I wonder.

As a fervent Trump supporter for the entirety of his time in Washington, D.C., with votes and actions that mirrored the MAGA agenda, LaLota’s and Trump’s belated denunciation of policies they formerly supported and are clearly tied to is hardly credible.

Trump is mentioned 300 times in Project 2025. CNN found at least 140 people who worked in the Trump administration who had a hand in Project 2025, more than half of whom were listed as authors, editors and contributors.

The goals of Project 2025 are well-known and include a national abortion ban, no overtime pay for workers, abolishing the Department of Education and the National Weather Service, raising the retirement age, replacing civil servants with political appointees, etc. The litany is long and truly hard to believe.

We can’t risk Nick LaLota’s return to Congress. We need a strong Democrat majority in Congress, and a strong progressive New York State government, both to support the Harris/Walz agenda and to vehemently oppose the forces that Nick LaLota and the MAGA gang would impose on this country.

John Avlon is the man to do it for us in Congress, outspoken, with the right values and a commitment to reaching across the aisle. And if you want more housing, clean water, and transportation and traffic improvements, Tommy John Schiavoni running for New York State Assembly and Sarah Anker running for New York State Senate are the votes that will bring those local goals closer to realization.
