When the Village of Southampton committed to address “climate mitigation and the elimination of greenhouse gases as a guiding principle and objective,” I was encouraged.
Now is the time to make that pledge tangible by voting to end the use of gas-powered blowers. We should join other villages, cities and states by demonstrating our leadership in drawing down our carbon footprint.
The facts are in: These blowers pollute much more than a pickup truck, risk ground and air pollution, and cause noise contamination. There are readily available, relatively inexpensive, easily rechargeable and effective electric-powered options.
Now is the time to act to save our planet.
