Timothy Edward Jackson of Southampton died peacefully on May 15. He was 58.
He was born on April 7, 1967, and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and community member whose presence touched the lives of many.
He attended East Hampton schools and later graduated from Bridgehampton School, where he played basketball with the renowned Killer Bees, contributing to two state championship victories.
In the summer of 1984, he began working alongside his father-in-law, eventually taking over the family business after his father-in-law’s death in 2001. In addition to running the business, he also dedicated 30 years of service to the East Hampton Union Free School District, retiring only after his health began to decline.
He and his wife, Yvonne, began their relationship in 1983 and were married in 1998. They had two daughters, Dayani and Jayda, who were the light of his life, according to his family. His heart was made even fuller with the arrival of his grandson, Asher, the little boy he had always longed for and adored beyond measure, his family said.
“Tim was a person who would do anything for anyone,” his family said, noting that “he wore his heart on his sleeve.”
He was predeceased by his mother, Shirley Opoku; and brother Christopher. He is survived by his wife Yvonne; daughters Dayani and Jayda; grandson Asher, all of Southampton; siblings, Pastor Michael Jackson (Dorothy) of Bridgehampton, Lita Lopes of Virgina and Kwame Opoku (Takecia) of Mastic; mother-in-law Frances Toney (William) of Virginia; sister-in-law Tameca (Ronald) of Georgia; and his lifelong friend Troy Bowe of Bellport; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. He also leaves behind his treasured puppy, Layla.
