To The Rescue

We had an emergency, with our son and dog being lost on the edge of a hundred-acre preserve [“Police Locate Lost Man, Dog,” July 23]. We called the most powerful number on earth — 911! They responded within 12 minutes of our call. We were panic stricken after hunting futilely ourselves for an hour and a half.

The supervising officer came and could easily see we were distraught and, in a very careful, confident voice, assured us that they would find him, and they weren’t leaving until they did. She would use all her resources to bring them home safely.

Then she called out the canine unit, helicopter, three or four quads, and six to 10 officers on the ground searching the woods surrounding our home. We realized that these were well-trained, dedicated officers who searched for our son as if he were their own.

We will be forever grateful for the success they had that night.
