Traffic Initiative

Southampton Village is currently considering an important zoning amendment designed to improve traffic conditions and promote more efficient transportation planning. Under the proposed code, every permit application will be required to include a detailed transportation plan, including the number of vehicles expected to be on site between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Approved permits will clearly display the authorized number of vehicles in bold type, enabling the police department, the Building Department, and neighboring residents to help monitor and support compliance. This initiative represents a meaningful first step toward reducing congestion throughout the village.

The goal of this zoning update is to encourage car-sharing, ride-pooling and other cooperative transportation strategies. Village residents will be encouraged to coordinate, “buddy up” and remove unnecessary vehicles from the road. Officials believe that these efforts can begin to reverse the current traffic challenges.

Your support is essential. Village leadership is asking the community to help move this initiative forward so it can be implemented before next spring.
