Transition

melon sun rises more leisurely,

splashing periwinkle blue

across the horizon.

Soft mushroom-gray clouds

whip across the sky

A harbinger of fall?

Gentle breezes —

insect sounds — steady, pulsating

to their own symphony.

Flocks of geese take suddenly

for their winter journey.

Small patches of gold and orange

dot the verdant trees.

The sun’s arc is lower now,

stealing daylight far too soon.

Harvest moon beams white

light over the dark inlet.

A new season begins!
