As we near Election Day, we focus on voting and supporting candidates who are like-minded with ourselves and encompass traits of integrity, dedication and vision. In Southampton, I think we are lucky, as such candidates are standing right in front of us and some are already actively serving.
Councilwoman Cyndi McNamara and Councilman Rick Martel are active members of our Southampton Town Council implementing thoughtful policies, monitoring expenditures, and shepherding health care and educational issues with conscience. Cyndi will be a great supervisor, as she is a local, knows local issues and will serve in a nonpolitical way. Rick Martel also is someone who always is the first to lend a helping hand and go the extra mile to help solve a problem.
Terri Kiernan continues to be our “most popular” and well-respected tax receiver. She is always accessible and dedicated to her work. She stays involved in the community and embodies what it means to be a public servant. I can’t think of anyone better for the job than Terri.
Scott Horowitz and Ed Warner have served as tireless stewards of our land and waterways as Trustees for years. Tireless. I also want to especially mention Joseph McLoughlin. He is someone who knows our waterways better than most and does the hard work and homework that few do.
I speak to the character of these people because I know them, and their merits and accomplishments speak for themselves. I have even had the pleasure of running for office beside these candidates in the past, and during that process I have watched them live up to their campaign promises and more. They are not politicians and, in fact, they are truly servants of the people and our way of life.
Let’s elect our business-minded, service-oriented community leaders and let them continue their good work and embark on new service endeavors.
Good luck, my friends.
