Trump Triumph

Some of the letters selected for us in the December 10 paper were priceless. Far more entertaining than reading the same old debate over whether a golf course in East Quogue will lead to the ruination of our groundwater and the end of mankind here on the East End.

I was touched by the sincere anguish of Dr. Paula Angelone [“Learning To Listen”] as she tried to cope with her hatred of President Trump and, by extension, all those who supported him or his policies. This condition was not so much a fault of her own but was inflicted on her by a media bias that sought absolution for the election of Trump in the first place. There was not a single day when she was not subjected to a deliberate effort to use hatred of Trump, the man, to obscure the accomplishment of Trump, the reformer of the status quo in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Angelone, you probably don’t pay much attention to campaign promises, because, like most of us, we don’t expect them to be fulfilled. President Trump was unmatched in my lifetime at delivering on his promises in spite of the monumental effort Democrats and the media made to distort and discredit his achievement.

He ran on reestablishing control of our borders, renegotiating bad trade deals, especially with China, choosing American interests ahead of foreign ones, confronting Iran by withdrawing from Obama’s treaty and isolating it through sanctions, deregulation of the economy and lowering taxes on our corporations and middle class, and rebuilding our military, which had fallen down badly under Biden and Obama.

I’m sure I missed something, but, for your edification, all of these were accomplished, and then some. Of course, the sources you probably used to inform you about this only told you that the president was a puppet of Vladimir Putin, that he had deep Russian ties and was lining his pockets with his family. They also made the enforcement of the sanctity of our southern border a criminal act of discrimination. They wailed at the harm being done to our planet because Trump allowed America to become energy independent and wouldn’t allow the United States to be suckered into trying to save the planet at the expense of our economy while the worst of the bad polluters (China) was free to pollute for decades to come.

Finally, COVID-19 was visited upon us, and in spite of our unpreparedness and the contradictions in understanding it, we will have a vaccine in record-setting time.

I hope this will help you understand why so many of us continue to marvel at what was the Trump triumph.
