Five people were sent to the hospital over the weekend after separate accidents in which, coincidentally, two Jeeps flipped over, and both drivers were charged with DWI.In the first accident, which occurred at about 5 p.m. on Saturday, the driver, 41-year-old Matthew A. Mosher, was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled over on Cranberry Hole Road in Amagansett. As of Tuesday morning, Mr. Mosher remained in intensive care at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. There were no passengers in his vehicle.Police also said Mr. Mosher might have been speeding when his vehicle crossed the bridge over the Long Island Rail Road tracks, which caused it to roll over when he lost control.Detective Sergeant Greg Schaefer said that Mr. Mosher was charged with DWI and driving with a suspended license. “He was issued an appearance ticket, but based on his injuries they will give him a couple of weeks at least,” Sergeant Schaefer said.At around 3:30 a.m. the following day, the second accident occurred: Nineteen-year-old James Mans of Ludenville, New York, reportedly lost control of his Jeep on Springs-Fireplace Road, close to Sycamore Drive, in Springs. His Jeep, which had three passengers, hit a tree and flipped over, emergency responders said. All of them suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including the driver, who suffered a laceration to his head, police said.“They were all … relatively minor, considering the severity of the accident,” Springs Fire Department Chief David King said on Sunday of the injuries. They were treated at the scene and then taken by Springs Fire Department ambulance crews to Southampton Hospital for further treatment.Mr. Mans was charged with DWI, though he refused to give a blood sample, Detective Sergeant Schaefer said. He was issued an appearance ticket and is due back at court in East Hampton on July 2.
