A rare bi-colored lobster was the catch of the day at Stuart’s Seafood Market in Amagansett on Monday. The live male specimen, weighing a pound and two-thirds and with its colors split down the middle—half brownish and half orange—was discovered while Bruce Sasso, co-owner of the store, was sorting out a shipment of lobsters from Nova Scotia.
His wife and co-owner of the market, Charlotte Sasso, said the lobster will not be sold and that she plans to contact the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead to see if she can donate it to the facility. While the lobster doesn’t have a name yet, the Sassos think an appropriate one would either be “Lucky” (for obvious reasons)—or “Bowie,” in honor of the late David Bowie’s multi-colored eyes.
