UPDATE:

Southampton Town Police say that the Flanders woman who had been reported missing on Wednesday evening was found dead by passersby on Thursday afternoon.

The body of Stella Sayre, 79, was spotted by a civilian in wetlands near June Avenue in Flanders at about 1:25 p.m. on May 22.

Police searching for Sayre were already nearby and responded to the scene and positively identified the body as Sayre. There is no foul play suspected.

Southampton Town Police have posted a Silver Alert asking for the public’s help in locating a 79-year-old woman who went missing from her home in Flanders on Wednesday night.

Stella Sayre is 5 feet tall and weighs 105 pounds. She left her house in Flanders on foot on Wednesday, May 21, at about 10:15 p.m., police said. Family said she is believed to be wearing a black puffy jacket with a hood.
