Vice President Joe Biden is taking in a little rest and relaxation this week in Southampton Village, village officials have confirmed.
No stranger to the area, Mr. Biden is expected to be in the village until the weekend, staying at an estate on First Neck Lane. Mr. Biden was seen shopping with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, on Hampton Road on Tuesday afternoon. The Vice President was seen carrying his wife’s bags, while a group of what appeared to be casually dressed secret service agents, watched over.
The Federal Aviation Administration has issued temporary flight restrictions for planes flying below 3,000 feet for airspace within a 3-mile radius centered in Southampton Village. The restrictions went into effect on Sunday, August 7, and will be lifted on Saturday, August 13, according to the FAA’s website.
With the exception of 2015, Mr. Biden has visited Southampton each summer since 2009, typically in mid-August. He and his wife have stayed at technology entrepreneur David Bohnett’s estate on First Neck Lane, and at the Southampton Inn on Hill Street.
Mr. Biden’s visits usually have not included public appearances, although in August 2012 he attended a fundraiser supporting President Barack Obama’s reelection.
Village officials also confirmed that President George W. Bush will be in Southampton Village this weekend.
