Victor Dzintarnieks of Southampton died on August 28 at Southampton Hospital of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He was 72.
Born in Liepaja, Latvia, Mr. Dzintarnieks came to the United States after World War II, first living and attending school in Pennsylvania. For many years he was a carpenter on the East End and worked for a number of builders in the area. He also had his own subcontracting business, North Cove Construction.
Mr. Dzintarnieks enjoyed travel, reading and walking on Long Beach in Sag Harbor with his wife, Virginia, known as Pat.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gunnar, of Shirley. A son, David, predeceased him, as did his first wife and the mother of his children, Irene Mackey.
Mr. Dzintarnieks is also survived by a sister, Rita Meilands of New Jersey; a brother, Erick Dzintarnieks of Pennsylvania; a granddaughter, Andrea Dzintarnieks; two stepsons, Bruce and Christopher Haag; and a stepdaughter, Jennifer Winkoff. Seven stepgrandchildren also survive.
A memorial service was held at O’Connell Funeral Home on Monday, August 31. The Rev. Ivo Meilands, a nephew of Mr. Dzintarnieks, officiated. Burial was at Southampton Cemetery.
