Vincent J. Quatroche

Vincent James Quatroche of Greenport died peacefully at his home on Easter Sunday, April 24. He was 89.

Mr. Quatroche was born in Sag Harbor to Vincent James and Dorothy Bushko Quatroche on October 7, 1921. He married Edna Turner Quatroche on December 6, 1952 at St. Agnes Church in Greenport.

He served in the U.S. Army-Air Force during World War II and later belonged to the American Legion in Greenport. After graduating from Southampton High School and furthering his education at the Washington School of Art and Oberlin College, Mr. Quatroche opened the first Greenport Art and Instructional Studio in the Village of Greenport. The Greenport Movie Theatre, where he retired from in 1986, will forever remember his charisma on the “big screen.”

A 30-year membership in the National Historical Railroad Society (NHRS) allowed Mr. Quatroche to cultivate his passion for the railroad. His unofficial title of “Town Historian” was an honor for him.

Mr. Quatroche was deeply loved by his grandchildren, and was a one-of-a-kind, survivors said.

Mr. Quatroche is survived by his beloved wife, Edna; children, Vincent James II, Edna and Boni; siblings, Gloria Quatroche Roys, Morley A. Quatroche, Thomas J. Quatroche, and John Robert Quatroche; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Quatroche.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to John’s Place Homeless Shelter, with checks made payable to St. Agnes Church, 513 Front Street, Greenport, NY, or East End Hospice, P.O. Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978, would be appreciated by the family.

Overplayed Hand

There was indeed an egregious wrong done, and it was done by the Southampton History Museum [“Egregious Wrong,” Letters, June 12]. Knowing that an overwhelming majority of the people who would be voting on their budget this year are against them trying to toss out the shellfish hatchery, they waited until after the budget vote to let us know they will be using the money we provided them with to sue the town over the discovery that the town owns part of Conscience Point — as they knew if they did this before the vote, they would have lost. Mayor for All

As a longtime resident of Southampton Village and a candidate for mayor, I care deeply about our community and its future, as do you. I bring a different perspective, one shaped by years as a successful entrepreneur, where results, transparency and accountability aren’t optional — they’re essential. Right now, too many important decisions in Village Hall are made behind closed doors. While that may not break the law, it breaks trust. I believe the public should be informed and engaged, not left in the dark. As your mayor, I will lead differently. I will listen first, act with transparency, and ... by Staff Writer

Humble Servant

I write to you in the closing days of this year’s Southampton Village election to humbly ask for your support in reelecting me as your mayor. I remain totally committed to serving you. For almost a third of my life, I have been a dedicated public servant. I served the American people for 10 years, first at the U.S. Department of Transportation and then at the U.S. Small Business Administration, where I rose to the No. 2 position during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have served the village for almost seven years, first as a trustee for two and a half ... by Staff Writer

A Real Leader

We enthusiastically support Ed Simioni for mayor. Having both served on the Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Commission, we know how important leadership and follow-through are. Look no further than our village’s downtown — crumbling streets, bricks pulled up throughout the business district and sidewalks in disrepair — all while the village budget is at an all-time high. Ed will fix that. On day one, he’ll get to work paving our roads, repairing Hampton Road, restoring our sidewalks and brickwork, and finally investing in infrastructure. He’ll bring the public up to speed on the stalled sewer project and get ... by Staff Writer

Premise and a Promise

I began my campaign for trustee with a premise: Residents want more imagination and more independent thinking on the Southampton Village Board. I also began with a promise: to remain independent, keep an open mind, and to listen, both during and after the campaign. Meeting with and listening to hundreds of village residents over the past two months has been an unbelievable experience. I am grateful not only for the support and encouragement I have received but especially for the rich perspectives and passions you have shared with me. Hearing from so many citizens has confirmed for me the reasons ... by Staff Writer
