Vivian Dynes Garber of Hampton Bays died on December 7 after a brief hospitalization.
Born in Auburn, New York, to Florence and Gardner Dynes, she graduated from Skidmore College with a degree in psychology and then worked at Electronics Park in Syracuse, where she met her husband, Sam, who predeceased her. The couple had three children, to whom Ms. Garber devoted herself fully.
She also had an abiding interest in the wider world, working with the American Field Service and hosting international students. Survivors said her warmth and generosity were well known in Syracuse and in the community of Hampton Bays where the Garbers retired.
Ms. Garber is survived by two sons, Tom and wife Theresa, and Peter; a daughter, Amy King and husband Brian; and granddaughter, Madeline King.
A private memorial service for Ms. Garber was held at O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays.
