Voters overwhelmingly approved the Hampton Bays Public Library’s $1.8 million budget for 2010 on Tuesday, with 137 people casting ballots in support of the measure and only 14 opposing it.
“The Board of Trustees, director and staff would like to thank everyone for coming to vote and for supporting your community library,” Hampton Bays Library representatives stated in a press release issued after the polls closed.
The budget, which was approved by library trustees in June, carries with it a $92,644 increase in overall spending, or an 5.4 percent jump over the current year.
Under the new budget, homeowners can expect to pay 41 cents per $1,000 of their assessed home value next year, or approximately one cent more than this year, in library taxes, according to Hampton Bays Library Director Mike Firestone. For example, a person who owns a home with an assessed value of $500,000 can expect to pay $206.28 in taxes next year, or $7.80 more than the current year.
