Taxpayers in the Southampton Union Free School District approved the Parrish Art Museum’s $326,509 requested tax levy on Saturday, 115-34.According to a Parrish Art Museum press release, 77 percent of voters approved the tax levy, which will help cover the museum’s exhibition and program expenses, including collaborating with local teachers, free admission on Wednesdays, reduced admission fees for seniors, art classes, workshops and tours for children, teens and families, and public programming.Based on the 2014-15 tax rate, next year’s tax rate will be $7.75 per year for a home with an assessed value of $500,000. The tax levy has not increased in two years.“We are deeply grateful for the community’s validation of the vital role the Parrish Art Museum plays on the East End of Long Island,” said Terrie Sultan, the director of the museum. “The museum continues to look for new ways to invite and welcome the community to be a part of the exciting work we do. This funding enables us to further expand the program of exhibitions, concerts, lectures, talks, films and classes we offer year- round.”In 2014, the Parrish provided free admission to residents and employees of the Southampton and Tuckahoe school districts. Tuckahoe residents also contribute to the Parrish tax levy. All residents of the two districts are eligible to enroll for “Resident Benefits,” and may sign up online at parrishart.org/residentbenefits or in person at the museum.
