Walk for Health

Ponquogue Bridge walking has become a popular pastime and exercise in Hampton Bays.

Most days, many people walk from the old drawbridge road, just past the U.S. Coast Guard Station, to the (ocean) water’s edge and back. It’s 1.8 miles. Many walkers do a plank on the beach and bear crawl for a few minutes. Some walkers do pushups and squats along the way, and a few of us walk uphill backward to challenge different muscles from forward walking.

On weekends, after the walk, a few of us whip a battle rope a few dozen times.

Many walkers have told me that bridge walking is great exercise, and that after the walk they feel fit and healthy. The next time they come, they might bring a friend.
