Walter F. Gale of Bayshore died after a brief illness on June 22, with his wife Methel, by his side. He was 81.

Born in Riverhead, he was the youngest of four children to the late Walter Gale and Mary Gale. After graduating from Southampton High School in 1961, he completed his education at the College of William & Mary Williamsburg, Virginia.

Walter served in the U.S. Army and was a beloved chemistry teacher at Islip High School for 32 years. He enjoyed numerous hobbies including tennis, golf, running, home projects, and lovingly “toting” his wife’s harp to numerous engagements.

He is survived by his brothers, Peter Gale (Gisela) Southampton; Thomas Gale (Alice) of Georgia; and his twin sister Susan Lieto of New Jersey; extended nieces and nephews.

Cremation was private. A memorial service will be celebrated at the West Islip Church of Christ on July 12, at 3 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Overton Funeral Home in Islip, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the West Islip Church of Christ, 600 Montauk Highway, West Islip NY 11795, would be appreciated.

SOUTHAMPTON VILLAGE — Police arrested a Manhattan man on August 15 in connection with an August 6 burglary at a Rogers Avenue home.
