Walter Kacik
Walter Kacik of Water Mill died on March 21. He was 82.
Born and raised in New York City, Mr. Kacik graduated from New York University in 1951 and earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree from Yale University in 1953. He served in the U. S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He worked for the design firm of I.M. Pei & Associates from 1956 to 1962, and during that time, the firm redesigned the logo on New York City’s sanitation trucks to its current simple white with black letters, SANITATION.
He built a weekend home in Water Mill in the early 1970s and moved there full-time in 2006. In his later years, he volunteered at the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons.
He is survived by a nephew, Gregory Kasick and his wife Nancy, and the couple’s daughter, Paige; and his sister-in-law, Barbara.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. Interment will be at the family plot in Flushing.
