Walter Potapchuk Dies At 83

Walter Potapchuk of Southampton and Sarasota, Florida, died at Southampton Hospital on Tuesday, October 11. He was 83.

Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Potapchuk was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War, and a member of the Army Reserves and Coast Guard. He was past commander of the American Legion in Lynbrook and a member of the Elks Club in Southampton and Lynbrook.

Mr. Potapchuk loved to golf weekly and belonged to the Sag Harbor Golf Club. He spent winters in Sarasota, Florida, for the past 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of 
60 years, Nadya of Southampton; a daughter, Larissa and her husband Frank Kalamajka of New Jersey; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Thursday and Friday, October 13 and 14, at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton, where an Elks service was conducted on Thursday. A funeral Mass took place on Saturday, October 15, at St. John the Theologian Russian Orthodox Church in Shirley. Entombment with full military honors followed at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
