Walter “Jerry” T. Johnston of Hampton Bays and formerly of Glendale New York died on May 3 at his home. He was 90.
Mr. Johnston was born in Queens to Viola and Walter Johnston.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1948 to 1952, when he earned a Korean War Service medal and sharp shooter badge.
Mr. Johnston worked for General Mills as the senior engineer.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus third-degree since 1965, and the Holy Name society. He was also the head counter and usher at Saint Rosalie’s Church, a member of Island’s End Country Club in Greenport and a Giants fan all his life.
Mr. Johnston greatly enjoyed his hobbies of building model airplanes and woodworking, and was a gin connoisseur, according to his family.
Mr. Johnston was a beautiful person who loved his family and found much joy in visits with his grandchildren, his family said, and will be missed.
He is survived by his wife Bernadette Johnston; his sons Jonathan, Peter and Michael Troyan, and daughters-in-law Marta and Virginia Troyan; his grandchildren, Annalise, Lianna, Nicholas, Courtney, Kyle, Kristy and Kevin.
The Reverend Monsignor William Gill officiated a graveside service on May 6 at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays, surrounded by family and friends
