Waltraut Gordon Miller
Waltraut Gordon Miller, known as “Traute,” died in Fort Myers, Florida, on May 9. She was 87.
Born in Konigsberg, East Prussia, in 1925, she came to the United States in 1931 at the age of 6 and was raised in Westhampton Beach, where her parents were servants at the Duycknick estate. Over the ensuing years, she worked in many fields of employment, some of which included the Westhampton movie theater, waitressing at the Wyldeoak restaurant, medical assistant at the Westhampton Medical Group, and sales associate at the Sea Shell in Westhampton Beach.
In 1996, she moved to Fort Myers with her companion, Nathan Dayton, where they enjoyed many years of fun, including bowling, golfing, dancing, casino trips, and many social activities in their senior community. She always enjoyed growing and arranging plants and flowers.
She is survived by two children, Gerald Gordon Jr. of Florida and Holly Hansen Black of Governeur; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
