Watch The Debate

On May 24, The Southampton Press published a letter I wrote titled “Battle of the Thirds.” This letter was about the candidates on this November’s ballot for Suffolk County Legislature (District 2). For the Democrats, the candidate running for reelection is “Bridget the Third” — also running simultaneously for the U.S. Congress, District 1, in 2022. The “Republican/insurrectionist candidate is Robert J. Carpenter III.

Folks, you can’t make this up. Little is known about Robert J. Carpenter III, as the Republican/insurrectionist website only currently shows his picture, no bio.

This situation should clear up on October 18 at 7 p.m., when the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons will hold a Zoom debate, between the candidates. For additional information, call the League at 631-324-4637.

The position of elected representative to the Suffolk County Legislature might not seem to be an important position, but it is a very important one. The Suffolk County Legislature has, as one of its main duties, the protection of our environment — the same environment that produces a means for many to earn a living and others to enjoy the East End of Long Island.

So, the question is, who do we, the voters of Legislative District 2, want to represent us? A person who will devote as little time as possible while running for a different office? Or a person from a political party that has demonstrated that they do not believe in the fundamental rights of Americans, as stated in the U.S. Constitution?
