Wayne T. Patrick of Southampton and New York City died on April 16 at St. Charles Hospice in Port Jefferson, just three days shy of his 56th birthday.
Mr. Patrick was a graduate of Rhode Island College and taught electrical shop for nine years at Lindenhurst High School. He worked for Time Warner Cable for the past 25 years, first as a manager, then as director of the technical department.
The great passion of his life was playing tennis. A “gym rat,” and a fan of the pro circuit, survivors said, Mr. Patrick could play tennis on any given day at any time. He was a great athlete on the courts, his friends and fellow tennis buffs at Sandy Hollow said, and never gave up a point without a fight.
He was well adapted to 21st century technology, survivors recalled; given any new technological challenge, he could handle it easily. Also a lover of music, and very computer literate, he would spend hours burning music discs for friends. His other interests included riding his motorcycle and “tinkering” with his 1975 Chevy Nova, which he inherited from his parents.
Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Edna Patrick, he is survived by his life partner of 30 years, Richard E. Brown of Southampton; a brother, Lee Patrick and his wife Lynda, and their son Keith, all of Connecticut.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Good Shepherd Hospice, 200 Belle Terre Road, Port Jefferson, NY 11777 would be appreciated by the family.
