There are two propositions on the ballot — as always, don’t forget to flip your ballot over! — that deserve attention.
The first is a state measure that would clear the way for an Olympic skiing and trail facility on preserved land upstate. We recommend a yes vote, simply because it seems like a sensible use of valuable real estate for the benefit of that region and the entire state.
However, the Suffolk County proposition, the second on the ballot, is a clear no. The measure would extend county legislators’ terms from two to four years, something voters have overwhelmingly rejected in the past. For good reason: County campaigns are not an incredible stress on the candidates, and voters should take care not to give up the chance to make a change every two years.
This is, simply, a solution in search of a problem. Reject it. Again.
