Late Surge Proves Vital For Bonac Baseball
The East Hampton baseball team defeated host Rocky Point, 9-2, in the first game of a three-game series on April 22. The Bonackers only led, 1-0, after six innings before rallying for eight runs in the top of the seventh. The Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the inning before Trevor Meehan closed the door on them. Meehan pitched a complete game, in which he struck out nine. Livs Kuplins went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Bonac is 7-8 overall and is three wins away from clinching a playoff spot.
Bees Baseball Takes Game One Over Whalers
A pair of back-to-back, run-scoring singles in the fifth inning by Milo Tompkins and Kai Alversa gave the host Bridgehampton/Ross baseball team a 2-1 lead over Pierson, and the Bees (5-5 overall) held on for the victory on Monday. Alversa pitched into the seventh inning, giving up just one earned run while striking out six. Tompkins, who was 2-for-3 at the plate, came on to get the last out, which he did via a strikeout. Braeden Mott pitched well for the Whalers, giving up just the two runs in six innings with strikeouts. Mott went 2-for-2 at the plate and Lucas Iulo also had a pair of hits for Pierson (11-3 overall).
Islanders Land Big Win Over Huntington
Luca Lattanzio scored five goals to help lead the South Fork boys lacrosse team to a 13-11 victory at Southampton High School on Friday, its first win this season over a higher-ranked opponent. Charlie Corwin and Brayden Talmage each added two goals and Isaiah Lattanzio had one goal and two assists. Oliver Edson made 12 saves in goal for South Fork (6-4 in Division I, 8-4 overall, 110.55 power points). The Islanders also defeated host Walt Whitman, 15-5, on April 24. Luca Lattanzio scored three goals in that game and Slate Glick and Alex Davis each scored a pair of goals.
Baymen Softball Wins Slugfest
The Hampton Bays softball team defeated Harborfields, 16-10, at home on April 24, and coupled with its 10-9 victory over Elwood-John Glenn two days earlier. It was the first time it had won back-to-back games this season. The Baymen (5-10 overall) scored nine runs in the second inning to go up 12-2, but the Tornadoes scored six runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings. Hampton Bays then scored a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to ensure victory. Maddie Warn drove in three runs and was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Grace Drake and Kaya Raynor also drove in a pair of runs.
Hurricane Softball Back to Winning Ways
Since its loss to East Hampton on April 17, the Westhampton Beach softball team (11-3 overall) has rattled off four consecutive victories, and eight of its last nine. Its latest victory came on Monday, 12-0, at home over Amityville. Rosalie Judd allowed just two hits in five innings with eight strikeouts. Katie Burke was a home run shy of the cycle and drove in three runs and scored twice. Addison Celi was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs and Mackenzie Herrera was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Farnan Records 400th Save in Victory
The Westhampton Beach girls lacrosse team (7-4 in Division II, 7-6 overall, 131.92 power points) defeated Miller Place, 11-5, at home on April 24, when Maya Farnan made eight saves, including the 400th of her career. Reese King scored four goals, won five draw controls and caused two turnovers. Ava Derby contributed four goals and four draw controls.
Hurricanes Boys Lacrosse Defeats Mount Sinai
The Westhampton Beach boys lacrosse team defeated Mount Sinai, 10-8, at home on Monday to improve to 7-4 in Division II, 8-5 overall, with 117.29 power points.
