Bonac Softball Breaks Out Bats
Izzy Briand missed hitting for the cycle by a home run, going 4 for 4 with a double and a triple and three RBIs to lead the East Hampton softball team (3-5 in League V, 3-6 overall) to a 15-0 victory at Harborfields on Friday. Alexa Schaffer went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Maryjane Vickers went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Ella Abran struck out four and only allowed three hits in five innings.
Tintle Paves Way for East Hampton/Pierson Girls Lacrosse
Ava Tintle scored six goals and assisted on another in the Bonackers’ 18-7 win over Brentwood at home on April 23. Lola Eldridge (four goals, four assists), Katie Grande (three goals, two assists), Cali Wilson (three goals, one assists) all had hat tricks for East Hampton/Pierson (2-5 in Division I, 3-6 overall, 83.57 power points).
Bonac Baseball Gets Back on Track
The East Hampton baseball team (6-4 in League V) swept its three-game series with Harborfields last week. After taking game one of the series, 9-4, on April 21, the Bonackers took the next two games, 6-0 and 2-1, respectively, on April 23 and 24. Mason Miles drove in Livs Kuplins on a base hit to win that third and final game and finish off the sweep. Every series thus far for East Hampton has been three-game sweeps. Bonac swept Hauppauge to open the season, but was swept by currently undefeated Eastport-South Manor. East Hampton lost its opening game at Half Hollow Hills West, 11-6, on Monday.
Bridgehampton/Ross Baseball Punches Postseason Ticket
The Killer Bees (9-4 in League VIII) won all three games against Southold last week to qualify for the Suffolk County Class C playoffs. Though not official yet, the Bees are expected to be the outright county champions after having won all six games over their “C” opponents Greenport and Southold. Bridgehampton/Ross wrapped everything up with a 10-5 victory over the Settlers on April 23 after having already taken game one, 11-0. They took game three for good measure, 9-6, on Thursday, April 24.
Pierson Baseball Takes Two of Three From Port Jeff
The Whalers (7-7 in League VII) won game one of its three-game series with Port Jefferson, 7-5, on April 22, then hung on to an 11-10 victory over the Royals the very next day in Sag Harbor to take the series. Port Jeff won the third and final game, 11-1, on Friday.
Southampton Boys/Girls Track Are Undefeated
Both teams are 3-0 after their latest victories. The boys defeated host Center Moriches, 82-40, on April 23, while the girls defeated Center Moriches, 85-65, at home on the same day.
Mariners Girls Golf Is Rolling
The Southampton/Pierson girls golf team is currently sitting atop the League IV standings undefeated at 5-0. The Mariners have only lost one single match point so far to Sachem on April 22. All other matches have been 9-0 shutouts in favor of the Mariners.
Warn Sparks Hampton Bays Softball
Maddie Warn kicked off an eight-run rally in the fourth inning when her two-out double to right center field plated a pair of runs for the Baymen (2-7 in League VI, 2-9 overall), who trailed at that point, but went on to win, 10-7, at home over Shoreham-Wading River on April 21. She finished 2 for 3 and drove in three RBIs. Louise Brumagim singled in Lilly Maffia to tie the game before Warn grounded out to second in the fifth inning, scoring Kaya Raynor for the go-ahead run. Brumagim finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Maffia scored three runs.
Baymen Baseball Sweeps Porters
The Hampton Bays baseball team (4-5 in League VIII, 5-7 overall) took all three of its games against Greenport last week. Starting with a 6-4 victory on April 21, the Baymen busted out the bats in game two on Thursday, April 24, winning 15-7 before completing the sweep in an 11-2 victory on the North Fork the very next day. Cole Wilson, one of the leaders in Suffolk County in strikeouts, struck out 11 in the most recent win on Friday. He allowed two runs on three hits in the complete game. Nate Donahue hit a home run and drove in three runs to pace the offense.
Hurricane Girls Lacrosse Halts Losing Skid
The Westhampton Beach girls lacrosse team (6-2 in Division II, 8-2 overall, 133.34 power points) defeated Miller Place, 11-7, at home on April 22 after losing a pair of games to fellow nationally-ranked teams Sayville and Bayport-Blue Point. Reese King scored four goals and secured 12 draw controls in the win over Miller Place.
Westhampton Beach Softball Pushes Win Streak to Five
A week after their hard-fought 6-4 win over Eastport-South Manor, the Hurricanes got back to business with a 17-0 victory at Amityville on April 23, then followed up with a 15-7 victory at home over Hauppauge the next day. McKenna Gevinski pitched a no-hitter in the win over Amityville, striking out 11 while walking two in what was a run-shortened five-inning game.
