The East Hampton baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on Friday to defeat Westhampton Beach, 4-3, and complete the three-game sweep. The Bonackers had won game one of the series, 7-1, on April 10 then took the second game, 10-0, on April 12. Jack Dickinson struck out 13 in the series finale but it was Hunter Eberhart who earned the win in relief. East Hampton (3-1 in League VII, 6-4 overall) lost its opening game of a three-game set at Rocky Point, 2-1, on Monday.
In its lone game last week, the Westhampton Beach boys lacrosse team (3-2 in Division II, 4-3 overall, 104.60 power points) shut out host Deer Park, 19-0, on April 11. Will Drake led the Hurricanes with five goals while Morgan McEntee scored three goals and had three assists.
In a battle for sole possession of first place, the Miller Place softball team edged the visiting Hurricanes, 2-0, on Friday to create what is currently, as of Tuesday morning, a three-way tie atop the League VII standings, between the Panthers, ’Canes and Sayville, with all 6-1 in league play. Had Westhampton Beach won, it would have been in first place by itself, but it did come back and defeat host Rocky Point, 19-7, the very next day. Katie Burke, who went 2 for 4 with three runs scored and five RBIs, capped a 10-run second inning with a grand slam. Her sister, Ellie Jean Burke, also went 2 for 4 with three runs scored, a triple and two RBIs.
