Bonac Boys Soccer Battling for Playoff Spot
The East Hampton boys soccer team needs to win, or tie, two of its final three games, which started on Tuesday, in order to qualify for the Suffolk County Class AA postseason. This is after back-to-back losses to Harborfields (2-1) at home on October 7 and at Half Hollow Hills West (5-0) on October 9. The Bonackers sat at 5-5-1 in League VI play heading in Tuesday’s home game against Westhampton Beach, results of which occurred too late to appear in print. They play at Amityville on Thursday, October 17, at 5 p.m. and close out the regular season at home against Hauppauge this Monday, October 21, at 4:30 p.m.
Torres Lands Hat Trick For East Hampton Girls Soccer
Amy Torres netted three goals and added an assist while Ellen Reidlinger, Kayla Guerrero and Stefany Naula all added a goal each to lead East Hampton (4-2 in League VIII, 4-8 overall) to a 6-0 victory at Hampton Bays on October 9. Shayla Buestan, Hailey Benenaula, Linda Prado, Gabriela Montes and Jennifer Penafiel all tallied an assist and Leah McCarron saved six shots for the shut out. Brianna Farrell made seven saves for Hampton Bays (2-4 in League VIII, 2-8 overall).
East Hampton Boys Volleyball Blanks Shoreham-Wading River
The Bonackers picked up their first back-to-back victories of the season after defeating Shoreham-Wading River, 3-0, on Thursday, October 10, in set scores of 25-16, 25-16, 25-19. That was after having defeating Hauppauge, 3-0, on October 7. East Hampton did lose, 3-0, at Bayport-Blue Point on Monday to fall to 3-7 on the season.
Southampton Girls Volleyball Bounces Back After Win Streak Ends
A 3-0 loss at Port Jefferson on October 8 snapped the Mariners’ six-game winning streak, but they responded quickly with a 3-1 victory at home over Greenport/Southold on Thursday, October 10. Bailey Brown had 31 kills and 12 digs, Haven Daley had 19 assists and 13 digs, Danna Nieto had 23 digs and Lucia Obregon Portillo had 19 assists. Southampton is 7-4 in League VII as of Tuesday morning.
Southampton Boys Golf Places Second in League VIII
A 7.5-1.5 victory over Pierson on Thursday, October 10, at Noyac Golf Club and a 9-0 victory over East Hampton at Southampton Golf Club officially clinched second place for the Mariners, who finished 8-2 with both losses coming to undefeated Westhampton Beach. The Conference IV Tournament for leagues VII and VIII was Wednesday, results of which can be found in next week’s edition, as will the results of the Sebonack Challenge, which is Friday.
Another Bounce Back For Baymen Girls Volleyball
After suffering its second loss of the season in its previous match, the Hampton Bays girls volleyball team defeated host Miller Place, 3-0, on Thursday, October 10. The Baymen (7-2 in League VI, 10-2 overall) have yet to lose back-to-back matches this season. Taylor Meyers had 10 kills and 14 digs in the win, while Julia Brandes added 29 assists. Asha Pensa-Johnson had 11 kills and 10 digs.
Westhampton Beach Golf Officially League Champs
A pair of 9-0 shutouts, first over Center Moriches at Westhampton Country Club on October 8 and then over Pierson at Noyac Golf Club the very next day, sealed up the League VIII title for the Hurricanes, who finished the regular season with an unblemished 10-0 record. Westhampton Beach competed in the Conference IV Tournament for leagues VII and VIII on Wednesday, results of which can be found in next week’s edition, as will the results of the Sebonack Challenge, which is Friday.
Hurricane Boys Soccer Avoids Winless Season
Brandon Enriquez’s first half goal held up as the Westhampton Beach boys soccer team defeated crosstown rival Eastport-South Manor, 1-0, at home on October 9. Tito Vicente assisted on the goal, while Nate Cangelosi made 13 saves for the shutout for the ’Canes (1-10 in League VI, 1-12 overall).
Four Straight Victories For Hurricane Girls Volleyball
The Westhampton Beach girls volleyball team (7-0 in League V, 8-2 overall) defeated host East Hampton, 3-0, on October 8 in set scores of 25-7, 25-14, 25-11, for its fourth consecutive victory. Katie Burke, Karly Pascale, Shannon Sweet and Jasmine Taylor each had eight kills to lead the offense, while Emma O’Camee and Kenzie Gilbride each had 16 assists and Ellie Jean Burke had 15 digs.
