Bonac Boys Tennis Earns First Victory
The East Hampton boys tennis team rebounded from its season-opening 6-1 nonleague loss at Ward Melville on March 25 with a close 4-3 nonleague victory over Islip at home the very next day. Individual scores were not available.
Bonac Girls Lacrosse Tops Deer Park
The East Hampton/Pierson girls lacrosse team defeated host Deer Park, 17-4, on Saturday to start the season 3-0 after having also defeated host Lindenhurst, 13-6, on March 28. Ava Tintle scored five goals and had one assist in the latest victory over Deer Park, while Lily Perello added three goals and two assists. Melino Sarlo scored four goals and assisted on another. Sadie Campsey made 10 saves in goal. Sarlo had seven points in the victory at Lindenhurst with five goals and two assists. Campsey made 11 saves in that game.
Alversa Leads Bees To First Win
Kai Alversa struck out eight in four no-hit innings to lead the Bridgehampton/Ross baseball team to its first victory of the season, 12-0, at home over Southold on Monday.
Pierson Baseball Starts Season Strong
The Whalers outscored their opponents in their first games of the season last week by an average of 12 runs per game. After defeating Southold, 11-2, in a season-opening mandatory nonleague game on March 26, Pierson played a doubleheader at Amityville on Saturday. It was the first game, which was considered a mandatory nonleague game, 20-1, and then the second game, considered a League VIII game, 10-2. Jeffrey Gregor drove in four runs in the victory over Southold and went 2-for-4 on the day. Max Krotman drove in four runs in the game one of the doubleheader sweep in Amityville. Nathan Dee and Justin Gardiner each drove in three runs. Krotman, Dom Mancino, Charles Schaefer and Paul Roesel each had two hits in game two.
First Win in Four Years for Southampton Softball
The Mariners defeated Elwood-John Glenn, 19-5, at home on March 26 for their first varsity victory in nearly four years with their last win coming in the COVID-19 pandemic-shortened season on Thursday, May 27, 2021, in an 18-0 decision over Shelter Island. Maggie Glanz went 2-for-2 with two walks and three RBIs in the latest win and Mya Halsey went 1-for-1 with three walks and four runs. Olivia Casabianca struck out four in the first four innings to earn the victory in the circle.
Mariner Tennis Wins Season Opener
The Southampton boys tennis team defeated host Mount Sinai, 5.5-1.5, in its first match of the season on March 25. The very next day the Mariners lost, 5-2, at home to Deer Park. Both were nonleague matches. Individual scores were not available.
Baymen Tennis Defeats North Babylon
The Hampton Bays boys tennis team (1-2 overall) shut out North Babylon, 7-0, at home on March 25, rebounding from their 6-1 season-opening loss at Smithtown East on March 22. Individual scores were not available.
Hampton Bays Girls Lacrosse Shuts Out Copiague
The Baymen (1-3 overall) defeated Copiague, 14-0, for their first victory of the season on March 22. Emma Schultheis powered the offense with four goals while Eden Brown and Taylor Meyers each scored three goals. Fiona Haddock and Kirra Schoerlin each scored twice.
Egan, Warn Lead Baymen Softball
Shea Egan led the Hampton Bays softball team (2-2 overall) to a 17-13 victory over Southampton in the season opener for both teams on March 21. She went 4-for-5 with a double and four runs scored. Maddie Warn also had a double and added a triple and drove in four runs. Kaya Raynor added two doubles and two RBIs. Chase Dunkirk pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts.
First Wins for Hurricane Tennis
The Westhampton Beach boys tennis team defeated host Bayport-Blue Point, 4-3, on March 25 then defeated Sayville, 7-0, at home on March 27. Individual scores were not available.
Westhampton Beach Boys Track Defeats Comsewogue
The Hurricanes won their first meet of the season, 74-42, at Comsewogue on March 26. Individual marks and times were not available.
King Fills Stat Sheet in ’Canes Girls Lacrosse First Two Wins
Reese King had eight draw controls, four goals, two assists and five ground balls to lead Westhampton Beach in its season-opening 16-5 home victory over Eastport-South Manor on March 26. Lily Graves secured four draw controls, scored four goals and picked up five ground balls. Joely Schaumloffel added four goals. The Hurricanes also defeated host Kings Park, 17-4, on Saturday. King scored three goals, had two assists, again secured eight draw controls and scooped up four ground balls in the win. Brie Provenzano also scored three goals and had an assist.
Hurricane Softball Wins First Two Games
Addison Celi struck out 15 batters and allowed two hits in a complete game and went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs to lead Westhampton Beach to a 5-3 nonleague victory at Eastport-South Manor on March 26. Rylee McGinness went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and McKenna Gevinski went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Celi then tossed a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts to lead the ’Canes to a 5-1 victory at home over Deer Park the following day. Elliejean Burke had a two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning for the game’s final runs. Evelyn Kuroski went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs, Kayla Blair went 2-for-2 with a run scored and Kali Baumiller went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Westhampton Beach lost its most recent game, 9-8, at home to East Islip. The game was suspended from earlier in the week and resumed on Saturday at the Moriches Athletic Complex. The ’Canes had two runners on in the final inning but could get them to come around to score in the tight contest.
