Bonac Baseball Back in Win Column
East Hampton (4-3 in League V) defeated visiting Harborfields, 9-4, on Monday to bring a quick halt to a three-game losing streak after getting swept by Eastport-South Manor two weeks ago. Despite being outhit by the Tornadoes, 9-5, the Bonackers made the hits count when needed, putting up five runs in the third to take a 5-2 lead, then scoring four runs in the fifth to extend that lead even further. Livs Kuplins went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored. Tyler Hansen, Mason Miles, Carter Dickinson and Hudson Beckman each drove in runs. Hansen nearly went the distance for Bonac, tossing 6 ⅔ innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on nine hits and one walk while striking out seven. Justin Prince struck out the final batter of the game.
Bonac Girls Set New SMR Record
C.J. Echavarria, Vicky Chen, Maggie Greenwald and Sara O’Brien set a new school record in the sprint medley relay (100-, 100-, 200-, 400-meters ran consecutively) at the Joe Brandi Relays at Connetquot High School last week. The team, which placed fourth at the meet, finished in 2:00.13, surpassing the previous record of 2:05.81 set on April 19, 2014, by Gabby McKay, Allesia Williams, Quincy King and Allura Leggard. Greylynn Guyer (7:39.38, personal best) and Laura Martinez (8:11.98 , personal best) combined to place third in the 2,000-meter steeplechase. Guyer placed fourth in 7:49.25 in the open 2,000-meter steeple at the Port Jeff Steeple Fest on April 16. Heidi Jimenez-Bustos, running the event for the first time ever, placed fifth in the freshman 2,000-meter steeple in 8:45.31.
Briand Leads East Hampton Softball
Isabel Briand led the Bonackers (2-5 in League V, 2-6 overall) in both the pitcher’s circle and at the plate in their 16-0 victory at home over Amityville on April 14. Briand threw three shutout innings, allowing one hit while striking out seven. She also went 3 for 3 with a double, two singles and two RBIs. Ella Abran threw two innings of scoreless ball. M.J. Vickers went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Olivia Dodge and Alexa Schaffer both went 2 for 3 with two RBIs each and two runs scored.
South Fork Boys Lacrosse Powered by Corwin’s Seven Goals
East Hampton’s James Corwin scored seven goals and assisted on another to lead the Islanders (4-1 in Division I, 5-2 overall, 110.27 power points) to an 18-6 victory over host Copiague on April 16. East Hampton’s Zane Karoussos had seven points (three goals, four assists).
Tintle’s Seven Goals Snap Losing Streak for Bonac Girls Lacrosse
Ava Tintle scored seven goals and had two assists to lead East Hampton/Pierson girls lacrosse (1-4 in Division I, 2-4 overall, 88.79 power points) to its first-ever Division I victory, 13-7, at Lindenhurst and snap a five-game losing streak on Thursday, April 17. Cali Wilson, Lola Eldridge and Katie Grande all scored two goals apiece while Wilson and Eldridge each added two assists.
Glanz, Greene Lead Southampton Softball
The Mariners defeated host Mattituck/Southold/Greenport on the North Fork on Monday, 20-1. Maggie Glanz drove in five runs on four hits to lead Southampton (3-4 in League VII. Avery Greene earned her first varsity win by striking out six over five innings without allowing an earned run.
Hampton Bays Baseball Defeats Greenport
Cole Wilson pitched a complete game, giving up four run, all unearned, on one hit while striking out 12 to lead the Baymen (2-7 in League VIII) to their second win of the season, 6-4, at home on Monday. The Porters scored three of their four runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead, but Hampton Bays scored two runs in the first, a run in the second and two more runs in the third to take the lead. Seven of the nine batters in the Baymen lineup had hits, led by Nate Donahue’s pair that included a double. He also drove in a pair of runs and scored twice.
Westhampton Beach Boys Lacrosse Tops Port Jeff
The Hurricanes (4-3 in Division II, 6-3 overall, 101.53 power points) defeated the Royals, 18-2, at home on Monday after suffering a tough 9-8 loss at Smithtown West in their previous game on Thursday, April 17. Finn Drake scored three goals and distributed seven assists in the win over Port Jeff. Finn Norton also scored a hat trick in the win. Charlie Beasley made 24 saves in that loss to Smithtown West which had come after Westhampton Beach defeated host West Babylon, 16-1, on April 15. Cayden Peters scored five goals in that game while Drake scored three times and had three assists and Norton scored four goals.
