Bonac Football Tops Hauppauge
The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton football team improved its chances of reaching the Suffolk County Division III playoffs with a 20-7 victory at Hauppauge on Friday night. Alex Davis rushed for 77 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns to lead the Bonackers. Theo Ball completed six of his 13 passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Charlie Stern added a 23-yard run. East Hampton is 4-3, currently seventh in Division III, and looks to wrap up one of the top eight spots and its first postseason berth since 2013 with a victory over Eastport-South Manor at home this Saturday at 1 p.m.
East Hampton, Hampton Bays Girls Soccer Play to Scoreless Draw in Finale
Brianna Farrell made 14 saves for the Baymen (3-5-1 in League VIII, 3-9-1 overall) and Leah McCarron made three saves for Bonackers (5-2-2 in League VIII, 5-8-2 overall) as both teams couldn’t find the back of the net in what was the season finale for both teams on October 22.
Bonac Swimming Wins In Lindenhurst
The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton girls swim team took first place in 10 of the 11 events competed in its 49-42 victory at Lindenhurst on October 23. Pierson eighth-grader Kate Deleski was selected as the team’s Swimmer of the Meet by the captains who said they were impressed with her efforts in the 100- and 200-yard freestyles and in the 4x100-yard freestyle relay. The captains emphasized that Deleski “represents the future of the team and they really appreciate her time and dedication this season. We are all looking forward to her being a part of our team for the next four years.” East Hampton will compete in the League III Championships at Sachem East High School this Friday at 4:30 p.m.
Southampton Girls Volleyball Awaits Seed
The Mariners wrapped up one of their best regular seasons in recent memory on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Mattituck at home. The Tuckers had taken the first set, 25-16, but then the Mariners rattled off three straight victories, 25-18, 25-7, 25-17, to take the match. Southampton finished with a 10-6 record, tied with Babylon for third place in League VII. As of Tuesday morning, it was unknown what seed the Mariners would get in the upcoming Suffolk County Class B playoffs. With Center Moriches having wrapped up the top seed, Southampton should play Babylon in a semifinal match that is tentatively scheduled for this Saturday, November 2, at noon, but where that match will be played was undecided as of press time. Hampton Bays Boys Soccer Finishes Season Strong
The Baymen defeated Southampton, 2-0, at home back on October 17, but then lost the regular-season finale, 3-2, in double overtime at home to playoff-bound Shoreham-Wading River on October 21. Although they finished with a 5-5 League VIII record, which most years would qualify the team for the postseason, the Baymen did not qualify for the Suffolk County Class A playoffs due to their 5-11 mandatory nonleague record. Matthew Pozdniakov and Juan Henao scored the two goals in the game’s first 10 minutes in the win over Southampton. Pozdniakov and Jesus Velasquez gave Hampton Bays a 2-0 first-half lead over Shoreham, which scored twice in the second half to force overtime, then in the second OT for the win.
Westhampton Beach Football Wins Third Straight Game
The Hurricanes defeated Harborfields, 48-7, at home on Friday night to improve to 4-3 and sit well line now for a playoff spot in Division III at fourth place. Drew Calloway completed seven of his eight passes for 132 yards and a passing touchdown. He also ran for 51 yards and a pair of scores and intercepted a pass on defense. Brody Schaffer rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Brady Spanbock totaled 114 receiving yards and a touchdown and Aidan Arrasate had five tackles on defense and one rushing touchdown. Westhampton Beach hosts Kings Park in its regular-season finale on Friday at 6 p.m.
