Weekly Roundup: Bonac Softball Trying To Turn Season Around, Bees Baseball Sweeps Greenport, Hurricane Baseball Steals a Win

East Hampton Softball
 

The Bonackers are winners of four straight after defeating Center Moriches, 11-7, at home on April 26 and winning, 18-0, at Mattituck/Southold/Greenport on April 18. They had defeated both Pierson/Bridgehampton and Hampton Bays in their two previous games and going 4-2 in their mandatory nonleague games have improved their record to 5-8 overall. Colleen McKee went 3 for 4 with a triple in the win over Center Moriches and Caroline DiSunno also went 3 for 4 with a double. Susie DiSunno scored three runs. Katie Kuneth and Caroline DiSunno pitched a combined two-hitter with six strikeouts in five innings in the win over Mattituck where McKee went 3 for 4 again.

The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton girls lacrosse team picked up its first victory of the season, 9-7, at Hampton Bays on April 25 then defeated Southampton, 16-9, at home on April 27. The Bonackers are 2-9 in Division II with 61.29 power points.

Busts Out
 

The Bridgehampton/Ross baseball team (7-6 in League X) swept Greenport last week outscoring the Porters, 40-7, over the course of the three games that were played on April 24, 26 and 27. Kris Vinski pitched a complete game striking out 13 and allowing three hits to lead the Killer Bees in game two of the series. Milo Tompkins went 2 for 3 with four RBIs and three walks. Scott Vinski struck out 10 and allowed one hit in a complete game in the series finale. Tompkins went 3 for 4 with two walks.

Southampton Girls Golf
Takes Down Riverhead
 

The Mariners handed the Blue Waves their first loss of the season, 6-3, at Cherry Creek Golf Links in Riverhead on Monday. The Waves had won their first eight consecutive matches to start the season. Southampton/Pierson is 5-0 in League IV.

Pierson Baseball
Takes Two
 

The Whalers (10-2 in League X, 10-3 overall) took the first two games of a three-game set from Amityville last week. They won the first game, 11-3, in Amityville on April 26, before taking game two, 9-0, at Mashashimuet Park on Saturday, which was originally scheduled as a doubleheader but the third game was postponed due to rain and will be played this Sunday, May 7, at 10 a.m. at the park. Dom Mancino pitched five innings and only allowed two earned runs in the first game of the series. Gavin Gilbride went 3 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs.

Hurricane Softball
 

After defeating Pierson/Bridgehampton, 12-0, at home on April 26, the Hurricanes defeated host Center Moriches, 3-1, the very next day to improve to 9-3 in League VII, 9-4 overall. Katie Burke went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs in the win over Pierson, and her sister, Elliejean, went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Addison Celi went 1 for 2 with two runs scored and two RBIs and struck out nine batters in four innings. Rosalie Judd struck out two in the fifth inning to combine with Celi for a one-hitter. Rylee McGinness went 2 for 2 with two runs and an RBI. Celi struck out 11 in a one-hitter at Center Moriches. McGinness went 3 for 3 with a double, triple and two RBIs and Katie Burke went 2 for 3 with a double, RBI and two runs.

Westhampton Beach Baseball
Takes One From Comsewogue
 

The Westhampton Beach baseball team earned its second victory this season after defeating Comsewogue, 3-2, at home on Monday. Ryan Knieriemen threw a complete game and struck out five and Jacob Permakoff had two hits and drove in two runs. Knieriemen also doubled and drove in the other run for the ’Canes (2-13 in League VII).

Ella Coady and Elie Poremba led the Southampton girls golf team all spring to second-place finishes in both League IV and at the Suffolk County Championships, where Poremba staved off Coady and Smithtown East’s Sophia Corso for the overall individual title.
