The East Hampton field hockey team had to play the top two teams in Division II, Harborfields and Bayport-Blue Point, on Friday and Monday, respectively, and it earned a split. After defeating host Harborfields, 1-0, on Friday, the Bonackers lost at home to Bayport, 2-0, to fall to 10-3 on the season with one game remaining on its schedule, which was played at home Wednesday against Rocky Point. A win or loss in that game could affect where the Bonackers are seeded in the upcoming Suffolk County Class B playoffs, which are expected to begin this Monday, October 24.
The East Hampton boys volleyball team split its matches last week, defeating host Comsewogue, 3-0, on October 11 before losing, 3-1, at home to Sachem East. That kept the Bonackers’ record even at 6-6 which, if all things stay the same in the final week of the regular season this week, should make the team the No. 2 seed in the Suffolk County Division II playoffs behind Eastport-South Manor.
The Bonackers lost, 34-14, at home to Harborfields on Saturday morning to fall to 1-5 on the season. Charlie Corwin and Will Darrell each scored touchdowns for East Hampton/Pierson.
In the second matchup of the season between a pair of local rivals, the Mariners topped the Whalers, 3-1, at home on Friday night behind a pair of goals from Danny Bustamante. Jhoseph Garay Montalvo added another goal for Southampton while Javi Tubatan put Pierson on the board in the second half. The two teams had tied each other, 1-1, earlier in the season. The Mariners, who lost their season finale, 2-0, at Mattituck on Monday, finished the season 10-5-1 in League V and will most likely be the fourth seed in the Class B bracket and play at top-seed Babylon when the playoffs open up October 26. Pierson, meanwhile, played Southold in its regular season finale on Wednesday in a preview of the Suffolk County Class C Championship, which will be played October 29 at Diamond in the Pines in Coram at 1 p.m.
As expected, the Pierson/Bridgehampton girls volleyball team punched its ticket to the Suffolk County Class C playoffs with back-to-back 3-0 victories over Greenport/Southold and Smithtown Christian on October 13 and this past Monday, respectively. Emma Gaeckle then blocked three of four shooters in the shootout round to secure the win for the Mariners who hosted Greenport/Southold on Wednesday. The winner of that game is expected to meet Pierson in the Suffolk County Class C Championship on October 29.

The Suffolk County Class A playoffs begin this Tuesday, October 25.
