Defeats Harborfields In Finale
 

The Bonackers defeated host Harborfields, 7-1, on Thursday, May 12, to finish their season 3-9 in League V play, 5-11 overall, and snapped a five-game losing streak. Katie Kuneth struck out 10 batters in a complete game and went 3 for 4 at the plate while Maddie Brown and Leah Masi each went 2 for 4.

Shuts Out Brentwood
 

After a tough 16-1 loss to Bay Shore at East Hampton High School on May 10, the Islanders responded well with a 16-0 victory at Brentwood to close out the season on Friday. Joe Scully scored four goals in the win while J.P. Amaden had six points (three goals, three assists). Isaiah Lattanzio had two goals and three assists. South Fork finished with a 6-8 record.

Defeats Shelter Island
 

The Whalers defeated hosted Shelter Island, 19-11, on May 10 to finish the season 2-6 overall.

Local Track Athletes
Shine At Loucks Games
 

A handful of athletes from both Southampton and Westhampton Beach High Schools competed at the prestigious Glenn D. Loucks Games at White Plains High School this past weekend. Southampton’s Billy Malone broke the school record in the 800-meter run, finishing in 1:55.62, surpassing Nick Collazos’s record of 1:56.01. He finished ninth overall out of 40 finishers. Bridget Ferguson cleared 5 feet and finished sixth out of 32 high jumpers. The 4x400-meter boys relay team of Maxwell Murch, Evan Simioni, Saintino Arnold and Harrison Gavalas placed second in their heat, 12th overall, crossing the finish line in 3:33.04. Maya Cirincione of Westhampton Beach placed second overall in the 1,600-meter race walk in 8:04.14. Her teammate Valerie Finke finished fifth out of 28 in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 1:07.25. Keira Falvey and Oona Murphy placed eighth and 10th, respectively, in the 2,000-meter steeplechase. Falvey finished in a personal best 7:59 while Murphy finished in 8:07.49. Madison Phillips finished sixth in the pentathlon with 2,058 points.

League Title To Sachem
 

After losing, 7-2, at Bridgehampton Golf Club on May 10, the Mariners lost, 8.5-0.5, two days later to Sachem at Middle Island Country Club, ending all hopes of at least a share of the League IV title. Southampton followed up with a 9-0 victory over Shoreham-Wading River in its final match of the regular season in Bridgehampton on Monday. The Section XI Championships begin this Monday, May 23, at Smithtown Landing Country Club and will conclude the following day.

Ends Season On High Note
 

The Southampton baseball team (1-17 in League VII, 2-17 overall) bookended its season victories. After defeating playoff-bound Pierson, 8-7, in its season opener on March 26, the Mariners won their season finale, 7-5, at Mattituck on Thursday, May 12. Riley Herrmann had a pair of hits and stolen bases and Daniel McDonnell also collected two hits and pitched four innings to grab the win. Alex Boyd, Zack Valk and Andrew Venesina are the only three seniors who are graduating with the majority of the team returning next season.

Avoids Winless Season
 

The Baymen defeated Southampton, 10-9, for the first victory of the season in the final game of the season at home on May 10. Jordyn Meyer scored four goals for Hampton Bays while Eden Brown chipped in with three goals.

Finishes With Winning Record
 

For the first time in recent memory, the Baymen finished the season with a winning 10-8 record in League VIII play (10-10 overall) thanks to winning their final nine straight games. Hampton Bays swept Bridgehampton/Ross, Shelter Island and Greenport to close out the season, the final game being a tight 3-1 victory at home on Friday. Seamus Smith struck out eight batters in five innings of relief and allowed two hits and no earned runs in that game. Smith also had two sacrifice flies. James Clinton went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a walk and Hayden Bevis was 1 for 3 with a run scored.

Loses Finale By A Run
 

The Westhampton Beach baseball team lost, 4-3, to League V Champion Rocky Point in its final game on Thursday, May 12, to finish the season 1-17 in league play, 2-18 overall.

After Lydia Rowan’s triple in the bottom of the seventh scored the tying run, Alexa Schaffer won it with a three-run home run that capped the 13-10 come-from-behind victory for the Bonackers.
