After sweeping Harborfields to start the season, the East Hampton baseball team continued that trend last week by taking care of Islip in all three games. Colin Ruddy’s 15 strikeout effort led to a 7-0 home victory on Friday, then the Bonackers completed what was a suspended game from earlier in the week in a 12-5 victory on Saturday, then immediately defeated the Buccaneers, 7-0, in the third and final game. Carter Dickinson went 3 for 4 with three RBIs in the 12-5 victory while Jack Dickinson pitched 6 two-third innings of shut out ball in the 7-0 victory, striking out 13.
After defeating host Rocky Point, 19-18, on April 5, the Bonackers (1-2 League V, 3-3 overall) lost, 12-11, at home to Half Hollow Hills West on Friday.
Dylan Cashin and Ryleigh O’Donnell placed second and fourth, respectively, in the 2,000-meter novice steeplechase at the Port Jeff Steeplefest this past Saturday. Cashin crossed the finish line in 8:09.71 while O’Donnell finished in 8:12.67.
The East Hampton/Pierson boys tennis team has won all seven of its matches thus far this season, including a 6-1 victory at Rocky Point on Monday. The Bonackers were coming off back-to-back shutouts of Riverhead and Middle Country on Friday and April 5, respectively.
The Whalers (6-1 League VIII, 6-2 overall) lost, 7-1, at Southold on Monday marking their first League VIII loss of the season. Brendan Duffy struck out nine Pierson batters in the complete game effort. Pierson was coming off a three-game sweep of Greenport in which they outscored the Porters 44-3 in the series.
The Southampton boys track team lost, 78-63, at home to Port Jefferson on April 5.
Bridget Ferguson won the girls high jump at the Port Jeff Steeplefest on Saturday after clearing 5 feet. Jeorgiana Gavalas competed in a steeplechase for the first time ever and placed eighth in the 2,000-meter novice race in 8:34.24. Katie Terry placed fourth in the varsity high jump leaping 30 feet 6 ¼ inches.
The Mariners (1-4 League III) picked up their first victory of the season on Monday, a 6-1 decision over the host Baymen (0-5 League III).
Timothy Kraycar championed the shot put at the Port Jeff Steeplefest on Saturday. He threw 44 feet 9 inches. He also placed second in the discus with a throw of 107 feet 10 inches. Maxwell Garcia placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 23.98 seconds. The Baymen girls 4x400-meter relay team placed third in 4:42.49, Emma Halsey placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 30 feet 2 ¾ inches and Bryona Hayes placed eighth in the 200-meter dash in 28.40 seconds.
Meegan Lennon scored a hat trick, albeit in an 18-6 loss at home to Mattituck/Southold for the Hampton Bays girls lacrosse team this past Saturday. The Baymen also lost, 19-2, at home to East Islip on April 6.
The Westhampton Beach boys tennis team hasn’t lost a match since dropping its season opener to Ward Melville. The ’Canes won their most recent match, 7-0, at Bellport on Monday, and had defeated host Sayville, 7-0, on Saturday.
Halle Geller won a silver medal in the 100-meter dash (13.25 seconds) and a bronze medal in the 200-meter dash (27.27 seconds) at the Port Jeff Steeplefest this past Saturday. Val Finke placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.77 seconds and Keira Falvey placed sixth in the premier event, the varsity 2,000-meter steeplechase, in 8:06.97.
The ’Canes defeated host Hauppauge, 78-63, on Friday to win their first meet of the season. Trevor Hayes placed second in the premier event at the Port Jeff Steeplefest, the varsity 2,000-meter varsity steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 6:31.90.
The Hurricanes (3-2 Division II, 5-2 overall) picked up a 17-7 victory at Elwood/John Glenn on Monday and have won three of their last four games. Prior to that victory, Westhampton Beach had suffered a 7-6 loss at Sayville on Friday after having defeated host Babylon, 16-3, on April 5. Chris Koltzan had three goals and three assists in the team’s latest victory at Glenn. Aidan Kellachan and Chance Brindle each scored three goals, as well. Nolan Michalowski won 22 of 28 faceoffs.
After getting swept in their first two series to start the season, the Hurricanes picked up a much needed victory, 5-4, at home over Half Hollow Hills West on Monday.
