Pierson Boys Basketball Splits Previous Two Games
After picking up a solid 71-66 victory at Westhampton Beach on December 5, the Whalers suffered a 58-25 at Mount Sinai on Friday. Pierson is 2-1 overall and was scheduled to play another nonleague game at Southold on Wednesday before opening up its league schedule a week later on December 20 at Bayport-Blue Point at 4 p.m.
Pair of Losses Evens Pierson Girls’ Record
The Pierson/Bridgehampton girls basketball team lost, 49-15, at Westhampton Beach on December 6, then suffered a 37-24 loss at home to Eastport-South Manor on Monday night to fall to 2-2 on the season. The Whalers are scheduled to play another nonleague game at Sayville this Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and will play at Miller Place on December 20 at 4:30 p.m.
Southampton Boys Fall to Port Washington
The Mariners opened up their season in grand fashion on Monday night with a nonleague game against Port Washington at Nassau Coliseum. They found themselves on the losing end of the game, 67-53. Senior Dominick White scored 18, but Newsday reported that he suffered a dislocated finger, adding to injury woes early on for Southampton, which was without standouts Alex Franklin and junior Naevon Williams. The Mariners will look to bounce back in their first league game of the season on December 20 at home against Mattituck at 6 p.m.
Mariner Girls Lose at ESM
The Southampton girls basketball team lost, 50-30, at Eastport-South Manor on December 7 to fall to 0-4 on the season. Daelyn Palmore, a junior, scored a team-high 11 points for the Mariners who hosted Mattituck on Wednesday and will play at Wyandanch on December 19 at 4:30 p.m.
Hampton Bays Girls Earn First Win
After losing their first game of the Babylon Panther Classic, 42-30, to Deer Park on December 6, the Baymen rebounded with a 44-38 victory over Wyandanch two days later on Friday to improve to 1-3 on the season. Taylor Meyers scored a team-high 12 points in the win while Eden Brown scored 10 points. Hampton Bays was slated to play at Miller Place on Wednesday and then will play at East Hampton on December 19 at 4:30 p.m.
Westhampton Beach Girls Suffer First Loss
After winning four straight to start the season, the Hurricanes lost their first game, 49-39, at Commack on Friday. Sandra Clarke scored a team-high 17 points in the loss. Prior to that, Westhampton Beach had run its win streak to four games including a 49-15 win over Pierson/Bridgehampton at home on December 6. Clarke scored 20 points and had eight assists to lead Westhampton while Kate Sweet had seven points and five steals. The ’Canes play at Sayville on Tuesday and will open up their league schedule on December 19 at Comsewogue at 6:15 p.m.
