Defeats Huntington
The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton/Ross wrestling team defeated Huntington, 33-28, in its final League IV dual meet of the season on January 10 to finish with a 3-3 record. Josue Elias (138 pounds), Luke Castillo (145), Francesco Palombino (215), Juan Espinoza (285), Austin “Bronco” Campsey (101), and Juan Roque (124) and Eduardo Calle (131) all won their matches. Palombino and Espinoza each won their matches by pin in 50 seconds or less and Elias and Campsey both won their matches by technical fall. East Hampton also competed in the Anthony Cipriano Memorial Tournament at Copiague High School on Saturday where it placed sixth out of eight team with 99 points. Castillo and Adam Beckwith (170) won their respective weight classes and Palombino and Espinoza took third and fourth place, respectively, at 215.
Big Victory for
Killer Bees Basketball
The Bridgehampton boys basketball team put themselves right back in the conversation for the Suffolk County Class D Championship with a 69-61 victory at previously unbeaten Smithtown Christian on Friday night. Alex Davis scored 28 points and also had six steals while Jai Feaster had 18 points, eight assists and five steals. Adrian Molina chipped in with 12 points. The Killer Bees (3-2 in League VII, 6-4 overall) had previously lost to the Knights, 76-56, at home on December 18. They also suffered a tough 53-49 loss at home to Greenport on January 6 before rebounding with a 73-36 victory at Shelter Island on January 10.

Places Four at Tournament
Jackson Garcia won the 285-pound championship bout with a pin of Bradyn Ellis of Miller Place in 1:38 at the Anthony Cipriano Memorial Tournament at Copiague High School on Saturday. He was one of four placewinners for the Mariners on the day. Jack Nastri and Liam Squires each won their consolation final matches to place third. Nastri pinned Copiague’s Elijah Leftenant in 18 seconds, while Squires pinned Commack’s Brayden Mallgren in 2:44. Victor Barone placed fourth at 116 pounds.

Takes Third Place
The Hampton Bays wrestling team placed third out of nine teams at the St. John the Baptist Cougar Pride Invitational on Saturday. Kevin Saa Pacheco won the 124-pound weight class with a pin of St. John’s Mateo Del Duca in 2:22. David Orellana placed second at 145 pounds and John “Ry” DePalma defeated Holy Trinity’s Alex Renneisen, 4-3, to win the consolation final and finish third at 116. Diego Capellan (124 pounds) pinned Edward R. Murrow’s Jemali Dzotsenidze in 2:43 to place third, Cyrus Gutierrez-Tyler (145) pinned Murrow’s Vadym Beltsyk in 4:40 to place third, and Angel Valverde (152) defeated Murrow’s Patrick Dugan, 2-0 to also place third. Nilson “Danny” Quesada (131) finished fourth for the Baymen.
Clarke’s Triple-Double
Leads Hurricane Girls
Sandra Clarke had 20 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists to lead Westhampton Beach girls basketball to a 59-30 victory at East Islip on Thursday, January 11. Shannon Sweet scored a career-high 20 points and also had 10 rebounds while Sarah Gormley had 11 points. The ’Canes are 4-0 in League IV play (9-1 overall), tied with Rocky Point for first place as of Tuesday morning.
Blenk, Razzano
Place Second at Kujan
The Westhampton Beach wrestling team competed at the 38th annual Kujan Brothers Memorial Tournament at William Floyd High School on Saturday where both Dylan Blenk (101 pounds) and Dylan Razzano (152) placed second in their respective weight classes. Andrew Lewis (152) and Joe Carasiti (160) each won their consolation final matches to place third. Darren Cangelosi and Nate Cangelosi placed fifth and sixth, respectively, at 108 pounds and Tadgh Green finished sixth at 138 pounds. The Hurricanes totaled 123 points to place sixth out of 10 teams.
