The South Fork fall sports teams continue to make a splash this season.

Many have maintained perfect seasons or continued winning streaks, while others have bounced back from losses last week with successful outings.

Westhampton Beach

Westhampton Beach’s football team has moved to 3-0 on the season with a home-opening 49-13 win over East Hampton on Friday.

Nolan Michalowski rushed for 95 yards and three 1-yard touchdowns on 12 carries.

The junior running back’s final touchdown, which came in the second quarter, gave the Hurricanes a 34-0 lead. Sophomore running back Brody Schaffer rushed for 98 yards on three carries, returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, had an interception and made four tackles. Junior running back Kevin Smith caught three passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns, and senior defensive end and guard Noah Hebberd made five tackles for Westhampton Beach.

The girls volleyball team is also on an impressive run.

The Hurricanes swept their fourth straight opponent, taking a match over East Hampton last Thursday 25-10, 25-15, 25-20. Westhampton is now 8-2 overall and 7-1 in League VI heading into a match against undefeated Sayville (8-0, 7-0) on Friday.

Sarah Gormley scored once for Westhampton Beach on Saturday and Ava Failla made 17 stops for the Hurricanes, but it was not enough as the girls soccer team fell to rival Eastport-South Manor, 2-1. The September 24 loss snapped a two-game win streak and bumps the Hurricanes to 3-3-1 overall and 3-2 in League IV. Gracie DiPalo scored both goals in the win for the Sharks.

Westhampton Beach’s boys golf team is also seeing success. The Hurricanes bounced back from a 6-3 loss against visiting Southampton on September 20 to sweep William Floyd, 9-0.

Charlie Beasley lead his team by shooting a 38 at Westhampton Beach Country Club September 22.

With the win, Westhampton Beach moves to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in League VIII.

The Hurricanes hosted William Floyd in back-to-back matchups between the two teams Wednesday, but results were not available by press time.

Westhampton Beach’s boys cross country team is 2-0 on the season after a 21-54 win over visiting Half Hollow Hills West on September 20, while the girls team is also undefeated after a 15-40 win at Half Hollow Hills West. The Hurricanes boys hosted Rocky Point Wednesday, but results were not available by press time.

Hampton Bays

After suffering their first loss of the season, members of Hampton Bays girls volleyball team rallied together to sweep Mt. Sinai, 3-0, on the road last Thursday.

Sophomore middle blocker Asha Pensa-Johnson had eight kills in the 25-17, 25-14, 25-13 win on September 22. Junior middle blocker Nellie Nicolova had six kills, three blocks and four aces. Senior outside hitter Lilly Patek added five kills for Hampton Bays, which moves to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in League VII.

Hampton Bays lost a close 3-0 match to Bayport-Blue Point September 20, 18-25, 23-25, 24-26.

The Baymen had a chance to clinch their first postseason berth since 2016 with a win over Greenport/Southold Wednesday, but results were not available by press time. Check 27east.com and The Southampton Press Western Edition next week for results from this contest.

The Hampton Bays boys golf team also bounced back, from a 9-0 loss to Mattituck last Tuesday, with an 8-1 win over Greenport/Southold September 21.

Rieve Nydegger shot a 43 to lead the Baymen, which move to 2-2 in League VII.

Southampton

Southampton’s boys golf team, which had a match at East Hampton postponed Thursday due to inclement weather, remains perfect — at 4-0 — to start the season.

The Mariners most recently picked up an 8-1 win over Pierson/Bridgehampton and a 6-3 victory at Westhampton Beach.

Southampton hosted Pierson this past Wednesday, but results were not available by press time.

Pierson/Bridgehampton

Pierson/Bridgehampton’s girls volleyball team had its September 24 matchup at William Floyd postponed.

The Whalers, which are 3-4 on the season, had a two-game win streak snapped by Ross, which swept Pierson/Bridgehampton, 25-14, 25-7, 25-13, on September 22.

The team topped Smithtown Christian, 3-0, last Tuesday, 25-11, 25-4, 25-20.

Sadie Lattanzio had a 12-point serving run in the first set on September 20, and Helena Kolhoff had a strong all-around game, highlighted by some big passes.

The Pierson/Bridgehampton field hockey team answered a 2-0 loss to Shoreham-Wading River with a 1-0 victory at Eastport-South Manor last Thursday. Lily Perello scored the lone goal off an assist from leana Morelo with 43.4 seconds to go in the second quarter. Cali Wilson made nine saves for Pierson/Bridgehampton, which moves to 3-2.

The Pierson/Bridgehampton girls cross country team also came back from an 0-1 start to the season with a 20-30 win at Southold September 20.

East Hampton

The East Hampton/Pierson girls tennis team bounced back from a 7-0 loss to Westhampton Beach last week with 7-0 sweeps of Southold/Greenport and Mattituck.

East Hampton freshmen Colleen McKee and Hailey Rigby, playing up at No. 2 doubles from their usually No. 3 slot, edged out their Mattituck competitors, 6-4, 6-4, and Pierson freshman Marissa Walter and eighth-grader Irina Kercheval swept their No. 3 doubles challengers in straight sets to help the Bonackers. East Hampton improves to 7-3 overall and 6-2 in League IV.

The team hosted Southampton Wednesday, but results were not available by press time.

East Hampton’s boys soccer team is also continuing its winning ways.

Following a 4-1 win over Bayport-Blue Point Friday, the Bonackers now sit at 7-1 on the season and 5-0 in League IV.

Eric Armijos scored three goals and assisted on the other for East Hampton. John Bustamante also scored and had one assist, while Nicholas Guerrero came away with five saves.

The victory follows a 6-1 win over Miller Place last Wednesday.

Gary Gutama scored twice and Armijos and Michael Figueroa each had a goal and an assist for the Bonackers in that contest. Guerrero made three stops and Adrian Arango, two.

The East Hampton boys golf team, which had a home match against Southampton postponed Thursday due to inclement weather, is 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in League VIII.

The Bonackers bested William Floyd, 8-1, on September 20. Nico Horan-Puglia shot a 35 on the front nine at South Fork Country Club.

East Hampton hosted Center Moriches Wednesday, but results were not available by press time. The Bonackers took a 7.5-1.5 win at the Red Devils in their season-opener back on September 8.

The East Hampton boys cross country team is off to a 2-0 start after a 24-34 win at Rocky Point September 20. The Bonackers hosted Wyandanch Wednesday, but results were not available by press time. The East Hampton girls team is also perfect so far this season after their own 15-40 win over visiting Rocky Point.

The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton girls swim team hosted the Stony Brook School in its final nonleague meet of the season last Thursday, and while the Bonackers fell, 55-39, to move to 1-1-1 on the season, there was success celebrated in Jane Brierly qualifying for the state championship meet.

The East Hampton senior swam to a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 1 minute, 8.38 seconds.
