Wesley C. Bilyk Of Speonk Dies February 2

Wesley Bilyk of Speonk died on February 2, 2017. He was 98 and believed to have been Speonk’s oldest resident at the time.

Mr. Bilyk was born November 27, 1918, to Victoria (Dyjur) and John Bilyk Sr. and lived 90 of his years in Speonk.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945, primarily in the South Pacific, and was honorably discharged in October 1945 with two Bronze Stars for his service.

During his lifetime, Mr. Bilyk had many vocations. He worked as a finishing carpenter, often with his bother-in-law, George A Frey. In his youth, he was a caddy at the Westhampton Country Club and with his brother, John Jr,. raised pheasants for the local hunting clubs. Mr. Bilyk also farmed, growing peonies and gladioli for the New York markets. In his later years, he kept busy with the house gardens and raising corn for the wildlife that frequented his property.

Mr. Bilyk was predeceased by his parents; brother John Jr.; sister Lillian B. Frey; and brother-in-law George.

He is survived by a nephew; Jeffrey A. Frey and wife Susan; nieces Debra Frey, and Deanna Frey and husband Ed Gabrielson. Other survivors are great-nieces and great-nephews, Nathaniel Frey, Melissa Frey, Desiree Kirchner and Derek Wells; and four great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, Dylan, Jordyn and Gavyn Kirchner and Maci E. Wesley. He also had many cousins in New Jersey and Canada.

Funeral arrangements were made through Follett and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach.
